Introduce yourself in a few words

Hi, my name is Noah Fong, I’m originally from the Bay Area in California. I am 24 years old and now living in Southern California flying for Sofar.

Can you tell us about your background and how you became a pilot?

I started flying during high school and became a private pilot shortly after graduating. I continued to earn the rest of my ratings in Daytona Beach, FL where I was a flight instructor and flew for fun to build my hours. I was fortunate enough to join the Sofar team in 2024, which has allowed me to become a better pilot and to explore many different places I never thought I’d be able to see.

What are the main responsibilities of an aircraft pilot?

Pilots are responsible for getting passengers to their destination with an emphasis on safety. We do this by ensuring the aircraft is in good shape as well as checking the weather along our route. Much of our responsibilities come down to good planning and communication where safety is always considered in each step.

What skills are essential for success as a pilot?

Good decision making, attention to detail, and being able to work with others are necessary skills to have.

What type of aircraft have you flown?

I have flown Cessna 152s, 172, 182s, Piper Cherokees, Aztecs, and now the Phenom 100.

What does a typical working day look like for you?

I get to the airport and start preparing the airplane. I discuss the plan and anything else to expect for the day with my crewmate. We then fly our passengers to their destination while making sure they’re having the best experience possible.

Why did you choose a private jet company?

I chose this company because I wanted to be able to fly and take people to many different destinations.

What's your favorite part of being a pilot?

I like being able to look outside and take in all the cool scenery we get to fly over.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to become a pilot?

Stay focused and set goals for yourself during training. Just know that everyone has a different journey in their careers.

Tell us an anecdote

People have asked me why I wanted to become a pilot. I always say that staring all day at the sky watching planes go by my childhood home is probably what did it.

What do you like about working at Sofar?

I really enjoy working with the people at Sofar and being an important part of a growing business.

What's your dream destination?

I’d like to visit Le Mans, France for the great 24hr endurance car race!
